Government Secrecy

1. Is WikiLeaks a helpful or dangerous website?

2. Is Jullian Assange doing a good thing by leaking classified information ver the website where everyone can see it?

3. If you knew of classified information that could potentially harm a lot of people, would you release it just because you think the people should know everything? Or do you not release it because it is a matter of national security?

government secrecy

Why does the article bring up political parties?

Do you think wiki leaks should be illegal and how does this effect freedom of speech?

Should there be a law against the disclosure of classified information?

Government Secrecy

1. How do you feel about all of this government secrecy?
2. It says "He also has launched a fundraising campaign for his legal defense fund." For his sexual assults, would u donate?
3. What steps is Obama doing to get more of the government secrets out?

Govt Secrecy

ONE: How and where does Jillian Assange get all these documents from? You would think the government would have tighter control of these.

TWO: What if the government kept all of the national "secrets" written down on paper and kept them them somewhere where only few people knew. Now no one would be able to hack the documents and display them to the world.

THREE: As someone in the military, you would think they would know not to give away disclosed information. I don't understand why Bradley Manning thought it would be okay to turn his back on the government like he did.

Government Secrecy

1) Is it the citizen's responsibility to keep government in check?
2) If SIPRNet is suppose to be kept private, how are  so many people gaining access to it?
3) Why did people seem to not make a big deal out of the international papers spreading the documents?

government secrecy

1.) Do you think Wikileaks should be done away with?
2.) Systems get hacked all the time. Should the government put information on computers if it is private?
3.) Did the "technology world" make it harder to keep information private? How much is too much technology?

Visible Man Questions

Do you believe that we the people make it too easy for the government to keep secrets?

Do you think that some secrets are good and some are bad?

Should the citizens have the right to request information whenever they want?

Questions about "Visible Man"

Peter Singer identifies with the beliefs of utilitarianism. In the simplest explanation, this means that he advocates for the greatest good for the greatest number of people. How do we see this belief in his article? How does this align with what he is arguing for in his article?

In class, we have kind of agreed that in Singer's piece there is tension between privacy vs. openness. Initially, we thought this was a question for the individual. Then we said that this was a question "in general." Who is included in this "in general?" What is the scope of Singer's push for openness?

Singer quotes a lot from Assange. How closely can we (and should we) attribute this to Singer's aligning himself with Assange? If Singer is utilitarian, does this mean Assange is utilitarian too? How compatible are their motives for advocating for greater openness?

Visible Man questions

1.  How ethical do you think 'The Patriot Act' is now?  Do you think at the time any American's actually realized the degree of privacy they would now be denied?
2.  Do you think it is okay for Assange to release information that effects actual elections? How much information is okay to release, how much is just 'mean.'
3.  Will social networking groups ever have a profound impact on society such as the impacts it had on Egypt and other Arab nations, why?

Visible Man Questions

1. Do you think if the video of Rodney King's beating was not filmed, would police brutality and other racist/violent acts continue?
2. With that being said, do you think people would want to know the cruel or uncruel things that happen when people are not paying attention or would they simply want to ignore it?
3.Would Wikileaks be controversial as it is now if it did not involve the Federal government at all?

Visible Man

1) Did anyone even know about Wiki Leaks before it was in the news?

2) Do you think that the people should have access to ALL government information?

3) Do you feel like our private information has been exploited and that our rights have been taken away?

Questions for invisible man

1. How much of an impact did WikiLeaks really have on the uprisings in the middle east?

2. How far has the government gone to spy on us?

3. Are the governments worried at all about WikiLeaks?

Visible Man

1) What things do you think the government looks for when they are looking through our information?
2) What information do you think the government is keeping from us?
3) What is your opinion on Wikileaks? Do you think that it is good or bad?

questions for visible man

1. What would be the so called status symbol you mean when you say we have desire for more privacy?

2. Do you think people are against Clinton and the hidden areas of the nuclear materials?

3. Do people think the world was more secure without Facebook?

Questions for Visible Man

1. Should the government have the right to keep secrets from the people?
2. Do phone companies actually give information to the government when asked for it? It said Verizon was asked but I wonder if information was ever given to the government.
3. Should the government tell everything to the people? Do people even want to know what all th government is doing?

Is Privacy Subjective (Visible Man)

Is the concept of Privacy very subjective? I mean we do not want anyone knowing our guilty pleasure, however almost everyone in the class has a facebook?

Does more knowledge really equal a greater understanding? How can you tell the difference between information and misinformation?

The end of the article it says "The way we answer the question will depend on whether or not we share Assange's belief that decision making leads to better outcomes when based on truth than when based on lies and ignorance." Can anyone make an argument for making decisions based upon ignorance?

My questions to Visible Man

1. How does Singer suggest that the government is abusing the trust of the people?

2. How do you feel about a government not keeping you up to date about important things?

3. Do you think that the reason for the Kenya election was all because of Wikileaks?

Visible Man

I strongly believe that the government does have to keep somethings secret. I really think we need to trust that our government is doing so for a reason, none of us can really understand the reasoning as to why what is kept from us is, and what is not, isn't. However, I would agree that the system is taken advantage of and too much is kept from the public.

1.) The article brings up the fact that we should be "well-informed citizens" yet they keep so much secret from us, so how can be so "well-informed"?

2.) Is it bad to just go to the Wikileaks website? I'm kind of curious to see what it's like.

3.) I don't really get what they are saying when they state that Wikileaks is harming the lives of individuals...how?

Visible Man Questions

Has anyone ever gone to wkik leaks before?

What are some other websites that are similar to wikileaks? The article briefly talks about them.

What do you think are positives and negatives of have infomation open to the public?

VISIBLE MAN!

1) I found this article and the discussion in class to be really interesting. I think because this is something we can all relate to, and we each have our own opinions on the matter. Has anyone ever been to the wikileaks website? For some reason I'm afraid to go to it. I'd rather someone else do it and tell me what it's like haha

2) I don't see why some people think it's totally inappropriate to have the government 'watching' over us. In the article it stated that 90,000 texts are taken in by the government, and personally I could care less if they're reading the conversation I'm having with my mom. I hope they think my cat's adorable because my mom sends me pictures of him all the time. If you have nothing to hid, why care if the government is reading what we send, or what's on our facebooks.

3) I goggled Jillian. He's creepy looking. And old. I pictured a younger man with black hair. That's not what I got.

Questions to "Visible Man"

1. What are they suggesting when they talk about the more people do something, the less risky it becomes for each individual.

2. Singer talks about when the loss of privacy is mot in any sense a choice. With our government, how is this possible?

3. Singer talks about having well-informed citizens. How is this suppose to happen when we want everything to be kept private?

questions to Invisible Man

I am curious how much freedom America is willing to give up in order to have this much protection.

Is it better to have the concept of "out of sight, out of mind" on a lot of things?

How does everyone feel about being filmed all the time? I think that's creepy.
