The Writing Process

Why do you want to start out so vague in the beginning?

I don't understand why they give us so much advice to go on Google and other random websites when the library encourages us not to use those.

Is it that important to write your ideas down instead of keep them in your head?

  1. I think it is important to write down your ideas because it helps you remember them, get them on paper, and think them through more thoroughly

  2. I like the question of the difference between having an idea in your head and having it on paper. I'll try my best to provide an answer, although please excuse me if I bore you.

The brain, obviously, is capable of memory, but there is not just one kind of memory. For example, a familiar smell (it's familiar because you remember it) can get translated in our minds into a specific moment or experience (another kind of memory). When we write things down, we engage different kinds of memory. We write ideas down, so we will remember the ACT of writing it down, we will remember the act of SEEING it written down, and if we read out loud, we will remember the act of READING it and HEARING it. The way I see it, writing things down and reading it really improves our chances of holding on to that memory and having it handy for quick recall.
